Adoption Program: Open

Children Available:
There are children in Hong Kong that are currently available for adoption. These children range in age from six months old to 18 years old

Parent Requirements:
Prospective parents are preferred to be at least 25 years of age and able to provide a emotionally, physically, and financially stable home for the child. Both married couples with a minimum of three years marriage and singles may adopt a child from Hong Kong. If a couple is on their second marriage Hong Kong adoption authority requests a minimum of five years marriage. Hong Kong does not refer children to prospective parents on a first come, first serve basis. Instead, they match children with prospective parents based on the needs of the child and the ability of the parents to provide for the specific best interest of the child.

Travel:
Parents are not required to go to Hong Kong at any time in the process. However, it is strongly advised that parents to travel to Hong Kong if for nothing else than to experience the culture, customs, and people of the land where their child was born.

The Hong Kong adoption authority is the Social Welfare Department Adoption Unit.
All adoptions go through this department. They can be reached directly:

38 Pier Road, Harbor Building 4/F., Central, Hong Kong
telephone: (852) 2852-3107 fax: (852) 2851-9189
e-mail: grau@swd.gov.hk, web site: http://www.info.gov.hk/swd

Interested prospective parents need to research and contract with an accredited adoption agency that has an open Hong Kong adoption program. This agency will facilitate all required documentation to the Hong Kong adoption authority.

There is a ISS located at:
700 Light Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21230
telephone: 410-230-2734, fax: 410-230-2741
