On May 14, 2007 the country of Nepal suspended all intercountry adoptions from taking place. The suspension was announced by the Nepali Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare. The reason for the suspension is to give time for the Nepali cabinet to examine the adoption process and reform intercountry adoption procedures. At this time, there has not been a given timeline for when the suspension will end.
