Notice of Hotel Shortage in Guatemala
If you are an adoptive parent traveling to Guatemala during the week of July 2- July 7 please be aware that the Central Adoption Authority in the United States has issued a notice regarding lodging. Throughout this week the International Olympic Committee will be in Guatemala City. This will cause a hotel shortage, particularly of accommodations that are nearby the U.S. Embassy. Adoptive families that will still be traveling to Guatemala City for their appointment, and do not have accommodations, are encouraged not to stay in hotels in Zone 1 of Guatemala City. The U.S. government does not permit their employees to stay in accommodations that are a part of this zone for safety reasons.
Families are encouraged, if they cannot find safe accommodations, to reschedule their appointments. An email may be sent to AdoptGuatemala@state.gov with a subject line of “Reschedule Appointment”. It is asked that the family include three alternative dates on which they could reschedule their immigrant visa interview appointment.
