Republic of Togo – Open for Adoptions

The Republic of Togo recently announced it will resume both intercountry and domestic adoptions. Under the process, all adoptions will be overseen by the newly formed National Committee for Adoption which will make the final determination on each adoption case. There are also new requirements for prospective adoptive parents. The entire process will be overseen by the Togolese Social Affairs Office.

The U.S. Embassy in Lome, Togo and the Office of Children’s Issues will continue to monitor the situation and will provide further information on adoption.state.gov as it becomes available. Please monitor adoption.state.gov for updated information on the Government of Togo’s new eligibility requirements for prospective adoptive parents which will be posted under Country Information.

    The Open Door Agency,

Over the past 12 or so years, my husband & I have talked about the opportunity to adopt a child. Recently, however, our hearts have been burdened with the thoughts about International Adoption. We are not taking this lightly or jumping in over our heads. We honestly feel as though God is leading us to adopt a child- we just don’t know from where yet. We have just begun researching adoption agencies & have been reading many articles on the adoption process. Today I found your company’s website & am very interested in information about your adoption process & the children in need.

    Some personal Information:

My husband, Will, & I reside in the United States, Florida and have two biological children. Austin, our 9 year old son, is in 3rd grade & loves to play baseball. Zoe, our 7 year old daughter, is in 2nd grade & loves to dance & sing. Will is currently a Principal at a charter school teaching children grades K-8th. I am working in the family business as a Travel Agent in our Downtown area. Our family attends church regularly & is very active in many of the opportunities there. Will is a Deacon in the church, as well as a Sunday School teacher & Orchestra member. I am also active in our church as a choir member & soloist.

We feel very blessed with our life, no major illness- extremely healthy ourselves & our children. We are in our thirties, have been married for 12 years & together for 16 years. We own a nice home with a fenced in yard & have an extra bedroom (not being used) that is available for a beautiful child. We have very supportive family & friends who love us & are always available. Even though I work, my job would allow me to work out of the home if a younger child is to be placed with us. Our hope would be that we could adopt 1 child between the ages of infant to 2 years. We would love the opportunity to raise a child from the beginning stages- as would our children, who we have already made aware of our thoughts on adoption. In fact, we will include them in all stages of the adoption as it proceeds.

I know this is a lot of information. I just want you to know that we are very serious about adoption & do not take this lightly. We want to change a life & give a child, not just a home, but a true sense of family, love & security for the rest of their life. So we would love to get as much information about your agency, international adoptions & Guatemalan adoptions as we can. We are ready to go forward with the beginning paperwork process in the next few weeks & would love to see if your company is the right fit for our family.

Thank you so much for your time,

    Amber Davis
