An Adoption Song
As many of you know there are an abundance of books, greeting cards, songs, and gifts that are made specifically for parents as they enter parenthood through pregnancy and delivery. The resources available to adoptive parents are growing, but remain limited. I have one adoption song, by Steven Curtis Chapman, that I listen to often. Alas, it has become overplayed on our little CD player and yesterday I went in search of a new one!
What a great discovery I made!
One of our partner adoption agencies, Shiloh, has a link off their website to a positively unique adoption website. The website is simple. A man had a conversation with God. He was concerned about being able to afford the adoption of a little girl from Ethiopia.
He asked God how his family was going to afford the adoption.
God responded, “What do you do?”
“I write songs”, he stated.
In his spirit he heard a simple message back, “Then, write a song”
This conversation has led to the creation of www.adoptionsong.com where eager adoptive parents can find a tune that speaks what we feel about waiting for our little loved one to come home at last. Thomas and Miki Hicks, the creators of this song and fundraising project have a six-year-old biological daughter who is eager to have a little sister to play with.
The song may be previewed and purchased for $1.50 on the Hicks website. In addition to supporting this creative fundraiser, we as an adoption community have been blessed with another adoption resource to have in our homes.
Each day thousands of us wait to bring our children home. We wait to embrace them, to love them, to see them comfortable in the place they belong.
Hicks has captured the ‘waiting’ experience of an adoptive parent in his music.

What a cool idea! We need more songs like this. The song is $1.50 but it is over 4 minutes long…well worth it.

Another great song is on Bruce Guthro’s Beautiful Life. He wrote a song for a lady who adopted a little girl from China(I think)called Gweneth’s Song…Enjoy!
